Distance learning has caused so much challenges to teachers and instructional leaders. Learners are found apathetic in using their books in their classes especially now that they have full control of their learning space at home. However, teachers are trying their best to utilize strategies that can increase students participation and the smooth acquisition of the language. This is the reason why the Researcher tried and observed the responses of the secondary learners when they used authentic materials in English. Upon seeing the competencies in the MELC, there are really skills that can be expounded well using authentic materials. This enabled them to interact with
authentic content which makes it more relevant and enduring. Moreover, language can be used in real situations. Thus, various authentic materials that were available at home were used to study the extent of their utilization in enhancing language learning and keeping the interest of the learners.


The Researcher sought the effects of utilizing authentic materials in teaching
English in the new normal.

Objectives of the study:


This study endeavored to hit the following:

  1. to determine the extent of utilizing authentic materials in enhancing students’
    language learning;
  2. to identify the most useful authentic materials in the English classes of the secondary
    schools in Balanga City; and
  3. to determine the most essential competencies in English that can use authentic
    materials.
